New Things 04:45
Old things they just can’t stay New things are you ready today? Old things their end is near New things you’ve got nothin’ to fear Is there enough time to get around to all of these new things we have found out about me, and out about you? New things gotta give ‘em a try Old things it’s the same old lie New things are gonna be okay Old things only get in the way Rising up this morning you know there’s something new It’s given plenty of warning it’s long overdue Got to kick old habits you know just what to do Open wide and grab it it’s waiting there for you Old things time to set them free New things that’s the way it should be There’s enough time to get around to all of these new things we have found out about me, and out about you.

You’ve given up with no reason why You don’t believe we should even try And when they say we’re running out of time You walk away and turn a blind eye You don’t know nothin’ but you know you’re right You won’t let no one try to change your mind You only see the world in black and white And never wonder if you’re wrong or right Every day will melt away beneath the blazing sun Feel the shame in every ray for what we’ve left undone Oh I’ll remember all those surrender days The ice is falling and the waters rise But you’ve been calling it a pack of lies You’re so afraid to look it in the eye you’ve given up without a reason why

He packed his lunch and he headed out before the break of day Drivin’ down I-84 he cried the whole damn way He didn’t know just where to go but he’s never goin’ back back to Boston, Massachusetts And when the sun was way past down he found a place to drink A crusty bar in an inlet town to find some time to think But thinking’s not what you do in this old crumbled shack there in Camden, Carolina So he rambled from town to town till they all felt the same Highway sounds and serpent mounds could not break the shame It’s not something that he did but something he could not do back in Boston, Massachusetts He lost his wallet in a dream and woke up to find it gone And there along with his self-esteem his bank account was drawn So he drove on to the coast to give it one last try Costa Mesa, California He took a job and he found a room above the laundromat It had a soapy air perfume but he grew fond of that And fonder still of the quiet nights that feed that famous sun down in Southern California A straight shot down to Newport Beach Juanita sang “Fun Fun Fun” Laughing at the high notes he could not reach and soon they had a son A love as big as the western sky but still sometimes he’d cry there in sunny California One Sunday morning on his ipad screen an old flame reappeared Holding a baby in a room he’d been she held him oh so dear So many tries and he realized she’d never given up back in Boston, Massachusetts He held Juanita with the hope to find the courage that he lacked He said he hoped that she wouldn’t mind and by Friday he’d be back Searching for words in the open sky written as he flies back to Boston, Massachusetts

January Wind 03:32
January wind flows all around you Why does it have to be so cold Weary of the sin that blows all around you There’s nothing left to have and hold Tears that wipe the shine from the sun as it rises powerless in the falling snow Tears for every time life’s little surprises catch you when you ought to know Don’t try to figure it out It’s not something you shout all around you Winter has a grey way it can hold you hiding shadows from the sun Vapor they became floating around you a silhouette of what’s to come Mouthing all the words rising within you In winter you can hear so far Far enough to know you haven’t been listening Why did it have to be so hard A song that longs to be a song about nothing wanders out into the cold Only needs a beat to be about something something you can have and hold

The Rowboat 03:17
I shove off quietly at dawn as the dock drifts away The oarlocks whistle to the birds till there’s nothing left to say My back is facing forward as I glide across the lake But my eyes are looking shoreward hypnotized by my wake A daredevil dangles on the line his promise never kept The dismal record of his failures he never will accept I put my hand into the water it’s warmer than the air and all I care about is a boat that rows and not where it goes Oars dip into the water afraid to swim too deep And when they rise above the surface they both begin to weep So they plunge back in again ashamed to be seen Sometimes you just don’t need a reason to feel so in-between

He took his good old time to find you as you waited by the door And when they all had said their goodbyes he stuck around to say one more All the lights are blinking yellow the only car left on the road He’s such an easy going fellow If anyone would know, you would know “I couldn’t have done it without you” he cracks and waits for you to smile But you’ve had your share of small talk and click the seat back for a while Floating high above the treetops that race along beside the road How does the moon keep his composure? If anyone should know, you should know It’s a red letter day Everyone came just to see you “Are you okay?” He always will see right through you Breath keeps fogging up the windshield as the summer turns to fall After a while he comes to notice you haven’t been listening at all So he cuts right to a question that you thought he’d never ask “Do I ever make you happy?” If anyone should know, you should know He pulls into the driveway jams on the brakes to make a point But you don’t want a confrontation He never gets this out of joint You wave your arms into the darkness a blinding light shines on the stairs You catch of glimpse of all the heartless things that you never should have shared He takes the leash down from the rack and walks the dog out toward the road You wonder if he’s coming back If anyone would know, you would know

This is one of those songs that bounces along and just makes you feel good This is one of those days you’re happy to say that you’re ready to feel good You don’t need to explain about all the rain that you had to run through You are so ready for this the sunshine and bliss you feel all around you It’s time to go outside and maybe go for a ride And let the sun hit you like just like a C major 7 This is like one of those things you learned how to sing deep in your childhood This is one of those times the silliest rhymes just seem to sound good I'm so easy to please I’ll hand you the keys we’ll go where you want to You can laugh in the sun and soak up the fun you know that you want to

Hobo Nickel 05:28
Out behind the woodshed beyond the Tamaracks lives a memory from way back Hid beneath the pine leaves windblown against the shack where the bones of birds and kindling crack Coddled by a mystery the burnished birds of prey fly in circles every year, to the day The town still hasn’t noticed the circumstance so strange it’s not a mystery till someone speaks your name I know it’s hard for her to make the time to leave behind what has been done I can’t pretend to know just how she heals or why she feels she has to run She couldn’t wait to show him excitement in her eyes an eighty-seven Silver Eagle was her prize He swung right through the Tamarack she piled the wood so high it drew up her jacket, and her skin captured his eye Beware of the hobo nickel so easily defaced clanging in his pocket and so eager to debase She blamed her own stupidity and hoping to erase the time and place, she wiped the dirt from off her face Beware of the hobo nickel once beautiful and bright carved and faceless, disappears into the night But sometimes by the woodshed when the sun hits the leaves just right a shining, gleaming Silver Eagle rises in flight

about

Lorne Entress Hartford, Connecticut

After decades of producing many artists I've released my own record. With little fanfare and a modest budget I hid away in my studio in Tolland Connecticut tracking songs. Most began with a single line of verse and grew from there. In addition to American roots influences the ringing harmonies of 70s British rock pushed to the surface and I didn’t push back. ... more
